📜 Coastal History

The Florida Panhandle's Gulf coast was a strategic maritime corridor during the Civil War, with Confederate blockade runners attempting to slip through Union naval patrols to reach Pensacola and Mobile. The white quartz sand of Panama City Beach is a geological rarity — carried from the Appalachian Mountains by ancient rivers over thousands of years, it gives the Gulf its distinctive emerald color found nowhere else along Florida's coastline. The waters off the Panhandle coast hold dozens of World War II military wrecks — including the USS Strength and USAF jets deliberately sunk as artificial reefs — now thriving dive sites teeming with marine life.

"He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap; He puts the deeps in storehouses." — Psalm 33:7
