🤿 Top ActivitiesHol Chan Marine Reserve, just south of San Pedro, is one of the best snorkeling spots in the Caribbean — nurse sharks, southern stingrays, and sea turtles in shallow water all in one spot. The Great Blue Hole, a UNESCO World Heritage site 45 miles offshore, is a bucket-list dive for certified divers. Day trips to both depart daily from San Pedro's docks; snorkel-only Great Blue Hole trips are also available for non-divers.
👨👩👧 Family FriendlyAmbergris Caye is great for families who want an adventure-focused beach holiday — snorkeling, kayaking, and glass-bottom boat tours are easy to book. The beaches aren't wide and sandy like the Bahamas, but the reef experience is unmatched. Mahogany Bay Resort is a good family-focused option.
🍹 Beach BarsSan Pedro's Fido's Courtyard is the classic island bar — right on the water, cold Belikins (local beer), and live music most nights. The Lazy Lizard on Caye Caulker (a short ferry away) claims to be the world's laziest bar, and it's hard to argue. Palapa Bar in San Pedro is a dock bar beloved by locals and visitors alike.
