📜 Coastal History

Saint-Tropez began as a fortified Mediterranean port and was repopulated in the late fifteenth century by families from the Ligurian coast. Its sailors and privateers helped defend Provence, while the seventeenth-century citadel still overlooks the harbor. The town remained primarily a fishing and maritime community until artists and writers made the Riviera fashionable.
