About Virginia Beach

Virginia Beach is the missing Mid-Atlantic anchor for this app: a major guarded oceanfront with resort hotels, a long boardwalk, Sandbridge to the south, and Chesapeake Bay beaches nearby for calmer-water alternatives.

The surf can change quickly when Atlantic swell, wind, and tidal flow line up. The safest planning pattern is to check the posted flag at the exact lifeguard stand and treat NWS Wakefield rip-current guidance as the baseline for the day.

📜 Coastal History

At nearby Cape Henry, the Jamestown colonists first landed in Virginia in April 1607 before continuing into Chesapeake Bay. The first Cape Henry Lighthouse, completed in 1792, was the first federally funded public-works project authorized under the new United States government. Virginia Beach later developed from small coastal settlements into a rail-linked resort; the oceanfront boardwalk dates to the late nineteenth century, and the Cavalier Hotel, opened in 1927, helped establish the city as a nationally known seaside destination.

"The voice of the LORD is over the waters; the God of glory thunders." — Psalm 29:3
