About Asbury Park Beach

Conditions are good today. Seaweed levels are low and the water is clear. No significant concerns.

The boardwalk has been completely renovated and now runs from the historic Convention Hall south through a district of excellent restaurants, craft cocktail bars, and boutique shops: all within steps of a wide Atlantic beach. The Stone Pony, where Springsteen built his early legend in the 1970s, still hosts live music most weekends and remains one of the most historically significant rock venues in America.

Surf & Water Conditions

Asbury Park beach sees 2–4 foot Atlantic surf in summer: moderate and manageable for most swimmers, with real waves for casual body surfers. The beach faces east and is open to the Atlantic Ocean. Lifeguards are on duty from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Rip currents are possible, particularly during larger swell events: always swim between the flags.

Water temperatures warm from around 66–70°F in June to peak around 70–73°F in late July and August. Moon jellyfish are common in summer and largely harmless. After heavy rain, Monmouth County may issue water quality advisories for elevated bacteria: check county health department before swimming following significant rainfall.

Music, Food & Nightlife

The Stone Pony on Ocean Avenue is ground zero: still hosting live music most weekends, still channeling the spirit of the 1970s Asbury Park scene that launched Springsteen, Southside Johnny, and dozens of others. Convention Hall on the boardwalk hosts major concerts. The Wonder Bar anchors the southern end of the boardwalk entertainment district.

For food, Porta is an excellent wood-fired pizza spot in a converted garage space on Cookman Avenue. Langosta Lounge on the boardwalk serves creative cocktails and great food with ocean views. The Asbury Hotel's rooftop pool bar is the summer social hub. Brickwall Tavern is the neighborhood institution for a cold beer and a burger. The Cookman Avenue arts corridor has expanded significantly in recent years into one of the most interesting dining and shopping streets in New Jersey.
