Conditions are mixed today. Seaweed is low, but there are other factors worth checking. See the live conditions card above for today's full picture.
Labadi Beach β officially La Pleasure Beach β is Accra's premier public beach, about 5km east of the city centre. It's Ghana's most-visited urban beach, with a long palm-lined strand, live music, beach bars, and weekend crowds. The beach is privately managed with an entrance fee, lifeguards on duty at weekends, and regular flag updates.
November through February, Ghana's dry season, brings the most reliable conditions. June through September is the rainy season β seas can be rougher and water clarity reduced, though the beach stays busy.
Lively atmosphere with traditional drumming, beach football, and vendors. Grilled fish, kebabs, and cold Club beer are staples. Horse and camel rides operate on the beach. La Wireless Beach (adjacent) is slightly quieter. Weekdays are calmer than weekends.
Labadi (La) is one of the oldest Ga-speaking settlements on the Gold Coast, predating European colonisation. The La people have fished these shores for centuries. Fort Labadi, a small Dutch trading post, operated here in the 17th century. Today's beach sits in the same spot where colonial-era canoes once launched through the Atlantic surf.
